Chendall Weaver believes his parents correctly handed on their athletic DNA to him. Shonda Perkins, the Texas Longhorn player’s mother, is his greatest admirer and is often seen on the court cheering him on. Weaver, 20, moved to the University of Texas after playing as a freshman at the University of Texas at Arlington. Chendall (pronounced KEN-dull) averaged 9.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists at UTA.
Weaver, a 6’3 guard, graduated from Mansfield Timberview High School where he averaged 17 points and eight rebounds as a senior. Weaver’s recent performances in Texas have made him a household name. His coach, Rodney Terry, commended his performance against Baylor, saying Weaver has been a standout in his position from the beginning of the season. Weaver came off the bench against Oklahoma and scored 11 points in 27 minutes, a season best.
Chendall Weaver Parents: Meet His Mother Shonda Perkins
Chendall Weaver has parents who were previous athletes. In an interview with Baseline to Sideline Report, Chendall said that his athleticism comes from his parents. The basketball player’s mother, Shonda Perkins, is active on social media. Chendall’s father’s name is not featured on the Texas student page, leading many to speculate that his parents had split.
Shonda Perkins was born in Texas and now lives in Mansfield, Texas. Perkins has made multiple Instagram photos about attending Chendall’s games and wearing Longhorns merchandise. Shonda is now a third-grade teacher at Imogene Gideon Elementary School. During the League Championship Series between the Rangers and the Astros, Shonda wore a Rangers t-shirt to school with the rest of the instructors. Last year, Shonda posted a beautiful snapshot of herself obtaining an autograph from her kid. Shonda has been a staunch Chendall fan from the beginning, and she even has a Chendall Weaver t-shirt that her kid autographed.
Shonda’s page includes not just her son’s achievements, but also those of her classmates. Last year, she posted photographs of her children making bottle friends for Black History Month. Shonda just tweeted a praise post to her son’s performance versus Baylor. The Longhorns beat the Bears 75-73, with Weaver contributing just two points, but as Shonda noted, he had a significant effect with two free throws and superb defense.
Chendall Weaver Siblings: Connection to a WNBA Player
The Texas athlete has three elder siblings: two brothers and one older sister. His two brothers, Cameron Cosey and Chandler Carter, have maintained a quiet profile. They appear on Shonda’s Instagram account on occasion. Chendall’s eldest brother, Cameron Cosey, turned 29 on January 1, and their mother shared a collection of photos. Chandler Carter, his second elder brother, had his 27th birthday last December 24. Shonda wrote a wonderful article for her son, whom she refers to as the family’s middle kid.
Chendall has a close relationship with former WNBA player Chennedy Carter, which many people are unaware of. Carter and Weaver are half siblings. Chennedy Carter played three years of college basketball at Texas A&M. She played 88 games at Texas A&M, averaging 22.5 points, 4.06 assists, and 4.18 rebounds.
Chennedy, a shooting guard, declared for the WNBA draft in 2020, bypassing her senior season. The Atlanta Dream selected Chennedy in the first round as the fourth overall choice. This made her the most highly selected player in Texas A&M history. Chenney was enjoying a successful debut season until her ankle injury. She scored at least 25 points four times and was nominated to the 2020 WNBA All-Rookie team. Chennedy signed a contract with Turkish basketball team Elzaig immediately after her maiden season in the WNBA. In 2022, Chennedy joined with the Los Angeles Sparks and appeared in 24 games. Chennedy averaged 8.9 points and 1.9 assists. Chennedy seems to be taking a sabbatical from basketball and is not on the Sparks’ roster. She has also not changed her Instagram account since July 2023.
