Chelsea Handler, an American television personality and comedian, has ended her relationship with Jo Koy. On July 18, just days before their one-year anniversary, the 47-year-old announced on Instagram that she and Koy are “taking a break” from their romance. She shared a video of the two of them that they had made in preparation for their first anniversary. It was accompanied by a long commentary in which she discussed how being with him transformed her life experience forever and “renewed” her trust in men. She stated:
“Jo- you blew my imagination wide, rekindled my desire to work hard and travel again, and you reminded me of who I was and always have been, and my feet have never been more securely set in the earth.”
Despite the separation, Handler maintained her optimism, claiming that the termination of their relationship meant a fresh beginning for both of them. She also wished Koy well and informed him that his “person is on his way.” Chelsea Handler revealed her romance with Jo Koy through Instagram in September 2021.
Chelsea Handler and Jo Koy’s Relationship
Jo Koy and Chelsea Handler had been friends for 20 years before their relationship developed. The two met on Handler’s late-night E! series Chelsea Lately, where Koy was a regular guest. When Handler released footage of herself hanging out with Koy in June 2021, it ignited relationship suspicions. Handler proclaimed on social media three months later that she was in love with the “greatest sort of person there is.”
Handler then uploaded a photo of the two kissing beneath a streetlight, while not revealing Koy’s identity at the time. The pair raved over one other in public and in interviews, often expressing their gratitude for their relationship blossoming into something meaningful.
Koy discussed his connection with his “amazing” Chelsea on Good Morning Washington.
“I adore her, guy.” She’s incredible. She is the boss. There’s nothing better than falling in love with someone you’ve known for a long time. I’ve always had her back, and she’s always had mine. It simply feels fantastic to finally discover love, especially with someone I’ve admired for a long time.”
Chelsea Handler claimed at the People’s Choice Awards in December 2021 that she was the one who made the initial romantic move in her relationship with Jo Koy, stating that he was too “nice” to ask her. She stated:
‘Jo, what’s the deal?’ I finally asked. ‘Do you have a crush on me, or not?’ Then I went after him.”
