Charley Hoffman’s health is undoubtedly better in 2024 than in 2023. Last year, he had surgery to remove a sun-damaged area on his hand, which turned out to be skin cancer. Hoffman, 47, lost the championship to Canadian Nick Taylor, who won his fourth PGA Tour victory. Taylor won the Phoenix Open with three straight birdies on the 18th hole. Hoffman went 64-64 over the weekend to finish second, then blasted back-nine 32 on Sunday. It seemed like Hoffman was about to win his first championship in eight years, but the wait has now been prolonged.

Charley Hoffman had skin cancer surgery in 2023, but his health seems to have improved dramatically since then. The golfer’s recent performance shows that he is back to his best. Last year, on May 18, 2023, Hoffman uploaded an Instagram image showcasing his surgically operated hand. In his Instagram post, Hoffman explained what had occurred to him.
Hoffman had a standard exam with his dermatologist two weeks before publishing the photograph. The dermatologist discovered some badly sunburned skin. He wanted to wait until the end of the season before the physicians operated on him. However, he finally opted against it and had surgery since the cancer was not something he wanted to fool around with. He informed his supporters that the operation had been successful and that he would be back in action in a few weeks. In the caption, Hoffman said that he wanted to share the photo since it was Cancer Awareness Month. He also advised his followers to use sunblock and get tested often. Charley further said that he did not create the post to elicit pity, but rather to raise awareness.
Despite having surgery, Charley’s weight does not seem to have altered. He seems the same in his Instagram photos, but he may have begun to pay more care to his health. Before surgery, Charley competed in the AT&T Byron Nelson tournament but did not advance. Charley returned to the US Open after surgery and finished in T49.
Charley Hoffman’s Career
Since becoming professional in 2006, Charley Hoffman has won four PGA Tour events. One of his first PGA Tour victories came in 2007 at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. His second triumph came in the 2010 Deutsche Bank Championship. Hoffman earned $2.5 million that season, ranking 25th on the money list. Hoffman had to wait four years to earn his third PGA Tour victory, the OHL Classic in Mayakoba.
Hoffman won the Valero Texas Open in 2015, his most recent PGA championship. He has 59 top-10 finishes and a total career earnings of more than $34 million. He previously talked on the Magnifying Excellence podcast in 2021 to reflect on his career. Charley and his wife, Stacey, have raised more than $3 million for children’s organizations.
