Chad Henne was able to relocate to the Wilson School District before the start of his third grade year in 1994. He also appeared in 43 scholastic games for the Bulldogs over the course of four seasons. And his third academic year was his most productive, both individually and as a team. As a senior in 2003, he was named to the Pennsylvania All-State Football Team, was chosen to compete in the 47th Annual Big 33 Football Classic in July 2004, was named the Pennsylvania Football Gatorade Player of the Year for 2003–2004, and received national recognition as a member of the 2003–2004 Parade High School All-American Football Team.

Similarly, he was inducted into the Wilson High School Athletic Hall of Fame and was a three-year member of the Wilson varsity basketball team as well as an outstanding athlete for the Bulldogs track and field team. Henne’s freshman season was also a resounding success. And, before his first game as a senior, he announced his intention to attend the University of Michigan as a Wolverine.

Chad went on to play for the Wolverines as a freshman in 2004. As a junior in 2006, he was named to the Rivals.com All-American third team. He was also a Manning Award finalist, a Maxwell Award semifinalist, a Davey O’Brien Award semifinalist, and a candidate for the Walter Camp Award. During his senior year, he was named the game’s MVP.

Career

Chad was selected in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. On July 26, he was able to agree to a four-year, $3.5 million contract with the team. And he was able to make his NFL debut in the second game of the 2008 season. He then spent the rest of the season on the bench, appearing in only two more games. Similarly, he was able to make his first career start against the Buffalo Bills at home on October 4, 2009.

Furthermore, his 2011 starting season began well, with 416 yards and a professional career-best passer rating of 93.6. On March 14, 2012, he signed a two-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. In addition, on March 7, 2014, he was able to sign a two-year, $8 million extension with the Jaguars, with $4.5 million guaranteed. He remained Bortles’ backup and saw no action during the 2015 season. So, on February 18, 2016, he signed another two-year, $8 million contract extension to remain as Bortles’ backup.
