The narrative of her ex-receipt husband’s of the nation’s highest military accolade, the Medal of Honor.
Dakota Meyer, her ex-husband, was born and reared in a tiny town near Columbia, Kentucky, and graduated from Green County High School. Meyer had never considered joining the Marine Corps. He considered joining the military. When a marine recruiter informed him in high school that he would not be able to join the Marine Corps, he joined the next day. He described it as a challenge. After signing up, he traveled to Paris Island and then to Camp Geiger in North Carolina for military training. He was stationed in Hawaii for the following four years after completing his training. His first deployment was in Iraq for 45 to 60 days in July 2007, but he was brought home early after being bitten by a spider and losing a lot of nerves.
In addition, he underwent two surgeries in Iraq. He returned to Germany for a short time before returning home to rehab his hand. He trained for another couple of years before taking over a sniper unit and becoming the team’s captain. When the gunnery sergeant indicated they needed five volunteers to deploy to Afghanistan in 2009, he raised his hand and was chosen.
In July, he traveled to Afghanistan. He was serving with the Fourth Marine Division at the time. They were in Kunar province, which is located in northern Afghanistan. They resided on a tiny base with four Americans and 80 Afghans, and their goal was to advise, train, and transition them to be able to take over their nation. Meyer claims that things began to go wrong on September 6th. They flew 12 to 14 107 rockets straight to their base. The missile struck one of the people he was with and severed his leg. Everything simply went bad from there. They returned to discuss it once the long-lasting battle was done. They were informed that they would be conducting a mission.
Then, for the next four to six hours, he looked for his colleagues but couldn’t locate them. They had everything planned out. It was an ambush with 100 to 150 enemy fighters just above them. Lieutenant Michael Johnson, one of the four Marines trapped within the town, called in a backup artillery operation over the radio. Nonetheless, the officers in charge of operations disputed that it was too near to the community. The last thing he heard from him was that if those bullets were not handed to him, he would die. Meyer was aware of the gravity of the situation at the time.
They spent the next six hours removing corpses and attempting to rescue them. He and Rodriguez Chavez would drive the dead and injured out of the valley, only to return and endure the gauntlet of fire once again. During his several journeys, his primary goal was to locate and save his friends. On their first journey, he was able to round up a group of Afghans and transport them. He was still being shot at as he walked out of the valley with the corpses of his friends. The table never shifted. He fled because there was too much firing. He leaped into the trench while jogging and landed on Gunnery Sergeant Johnson. He was no longer alive. In reality, they were all dead.
Lieutenant Michael Johnson was first, followed by Sergeant Edwin Johnson, Sergeant Aaron Kenefick, and Corpsman James Doc Layton. Meyer said in an interview that if he had murdered enough people, the war would have ended, and if he had rescued enough people, none of his comrades would have perished. He went on to say that it would have been spectacular if they had purchased them alive. Meyer was awarded the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military honor, on September 15, 2011. Former President Barack Obama bestowed the Medal of Honor on him.
