Cara Delevingne, the model and actress, recently spoke up about her traumatic upbringing in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK’s March cover story. She told the source that growing up in her family was “extremely difficult” since there was “a lot of turmoil.” Delevingne said of her mother, who struggled with heroin addiction before the birth of the actress and her sisters and was subsequently diagnosed with manic depression when her children were still young:
“Everyone goes through something with their family. My life, I believe, was quite stressful since there was a lot of confusion, and I wasn’t sure whether people were okay or not.”
In addition to a turbulent upbringing, Delevingne suffered from mental health concerns, forcing her to leave out of Bedales School in Hampshire, England. Cara Delevingne discussed how mental health difficulties can be blinding in the interview, saying:
“I dropped out because I simply wanted to show that I wasn’t the slacker I thought I was. When you’re dealing with mental health issues, you can’t see anything because it blinds you.”
Delevingne, who had continued to suffer emotionally after becoming a model at the age of 17, told the magazine that she battled with her sexuality and suffered from acute melancholy and anxiety. She added that having more LGBTQ+ role models to look forward to as a youngster would have helped her “loathe” herself less and made her feel less “ashamed.”

Cara Delevingne was born in Hammersmith, London, on August 12, 1992, to Pandora Anne Delevingne and Charles Hamar Delevingne. Pandora is a socialite who used to work for Selfridges as a personal shopper. Pandora hails from a distinguished family; her mother, Janie Sheffield, was Princess Margaret’s lady-in-waiting.
