Canelo Alvarez was born to parents Santos Alvarez and Ana Maria Barragan in Guadalajara, Mexico. Michoacán’s family is originally from Los Reyes, but they later relocated to Juanacatlán, Jalisco. Canelo began playing professionally shortly after winning the gold medal in 2005. Generally, amateur boxers do not make their debut at the age of 15, but Canelo did so because he was extremely talented and no one else wanted to fight him.
Although he was fighting professional boxers much older than him, he knocked out the majority of his opponents and maintained his winning streak.
Similarly, in his first 19 months as a professional, he knocked out 11 of 13 opponents, all of whom were much older than him.
