Career
He led Zimbabwe in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) until the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, taking over from Elton Chigumbura following the 2011 Cricket World Cup. In October 2011, he became the first Zimbabwean batsman to score a back-to-back One-Day International (ODI) century (128 not out and 107 not out) against New Zealand. He did it again in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup. In December 2011, he was chosen to play Twenty20 cricket for the Wellington cricket team as an overseas player in New Zealand’s HRV Twenty20 Cup. At the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, he established a new record for Zimbabwe in any World Cup with 433 runs. His 11 ODI century also set a Zimbabwe record, surpassing Alistair Campbell’s 7.
Taylor left Zimbabwe’s national team shortly after the 2015 World Cup, but on September 14, 2017, he canceled his contract with Nottinghamshire to return home. Taylor stated his intention to return home and play for Zimbabwe for personal reasons. He became Zimbabwe’s first batter to reach a century in each innings in a Test on two occasions in November 2018. He hit his 17th century in international cricket in the first ODI against Pakistan in October 2020, becoming Zimbabwe’s all-time leading batsman across all three formats.
