He rose to prominence by competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Flyweight division, where he is a former UFC Flyweight Champion and the current Interim UFC Flyweight Champion. In April 2011, he made his professional MMA debut in his native Mexico, and he would later make his World Fighting Federation debut in 2014, where he would eventually win the Flyweight championship.
