Bob Sirott began his radio career in 1971 as a summer vacation fill-in disc jockey for WBBM-FM. In 1973, he moved to WLS (AM). Similarly, from 1973 to December 1979, he was a top disc jockey at WLS. Following that, he was able to transition to television in 1980, when he accepted a position at WBBM-TV. He was able to take a job with the CBS newsmagazine West 57th after five years at WBBM, though the network allowed him to remain based in Chicago.
In March 1989, Bob returned to Chicago’s airwaves as a noon news anchor and program host for WMAQ-TV. He was then able to co-host and launch WMAQ-“First TV’s Thing in the Morning.” Regrettably, the show fired him after four years. As a result, he returned to work in March 1994 as the anchor of Fox Thing in the Morning on Chicago’s FOX affiliate, WFLD. He was relieved of his co-host duties with 212 years remaining on his contract but was nominally retained by WFLD to develop new programming for Fox stations and the company’s syndication division.
In early 2006, Bob Sirott was able to return to WMAQ as a weekend anchor, replacing Anna Davlantes on the weekend 5 and 10 PM broadcasts.
