Bill O’Brien and his Wife Colleen Relationship: 25 Years of Love and Laughter
Bill O’Brien and Colleen’s long-lasting love tale started in 1998 when they exchanged vows. After more than 25 years of shared experiences, their friendship has grown stronger. Their family is wonderfully expanded by the presence of two kids, Jack and Michael. Jack, the oldest brother, was born around 2007, therefore he is now in his thirties. On the other hand, Michael, the younger of the two, was born on May 5, 2005, and is currently in his late teens. The lucky encounter that paved the way for their love tale happened in the early 1990s.
Bill, then a lowly graduate assistant coach on the Georgia Tech football team, met Colleen at an Atlanta sports bar celebration. The setting was a joyous mood after Georgia Tech’s stunning overtime victory against North Carolina. Bill warmly recalls the occasion, characterizing it as love at first sight. Mutual friends, notably tight ends coach Doug Marrone, helped organize their encounter.
Colleen, who was there as a guest of Marrone’s then-girlfriend and college roommate Helen Donnelly, found herself amid a football celebration. Bill’s family, observing the spark between the pair, offered their seal of approval. As Bill recalls,
“My parents and brother were also there. They met [Colleen] initially. And they were the ones who warned, ‘You’d best not mess it up.
Colleen reflects on her first impressions of Bill, recalling his sense of humor despite the distraction of many football games playing in the background.
“There were so many football games on that he was busier watching the games than talking to me,” she said with a giggle. “However, one thing I noticed about him was his sense of humor. “He’s very funny and very himself.”
Their path from that sports bar meeting to a quarter-century of shared pleasures and struggles exemplifies the long-lasting power of love and laughter in their lives.
Bill And Wife Colleen O’Brien’s Philanthropic Work
In a great gesture of charity, Houston Texans coach Bill O’Brien and his wife, Colleen, demonstrated compassion and community spirit in March 2020. Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reported that the O’Briens donated $100,000 to the Houston Food Bank. This kind of gift was critical in helping the food bank’s attempts to offer food to people in need during the difficult days of the COVID-19 epidemic.
The humanitarian activities went beyond the O’Brien family, with the McNair family and Houston Texans owners also making large contributions. They exhibited their commitment to urgent relief operations as well as long-term assistance for vulnerable areas by donating $500,000 to the Houston Food Bank and Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston Meals on Wheels, respectively. Notably, the Houston sports community came together in the face of hardship.
