Mark Bowe will be featured in the inaugural episode of Barnwood Builders, dubbed Legendary Log Houses, as he constructs a bespoke log guest home in Dandridge, amid the highlands of the Great Smoky Mountains.
Magnolia’s series description reads:
“Mark Bowe and his team of West Virginia-based carpenters recover old barns and cottages in this series before the wood deteriorates. Their purpose is to breathe fresh vitality into old buildings. Among its undertakings is demolishing an ancient log house in West Virginia, restoring and reconstructing it for a Tennessee collector.”
Mark will also visit one of the country’s most iconic residences in the program. Meanwhile, Gatlinburg sweets shop will be transformed by painter Johnny Jett.
Barnwood Living was founded by Barnwood Builders presenter Mark Bowe.
Mark Bowe, 53, is from Glasgow, West Virginia, and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration while working as a coal miner at West Virginia University. He then earned a master’s degree in safety management from West Virginia University’s College of Commerce. His wife Cindy and son Atticus reside in Lewisburg. Mark is well-known as a craftsman, historian, businessman, and Barnwood Builders presenter. In 1995, he established his own remodeling company, Antique Cabins & Barns. The organization’s name was eventually changed to Barnwood Living, and it has altered the construction of 500 pioneer-era cottages.
He want to celebrate the “craft of America’s pioneer forebears” and preserve their hard work for future generations. With his official website, fans can also hire him for motivational lectures. Bowe also owns an insurance firm and has previously served on the city council.
Bowe told Greenbrier Valley in an interview that he intended to improve people’s perceptions of West Virginia:
“I’d want to challenge the notion of “hillbilly.” The network wouldn’t allow us to use it the first season, but after that, truck drivers would deliver to us while proudly identifying themselves as hillbillies. The network eventually came around. I believe it refers to strong bonds with family and friends, a determination to work hard, and qualities such as endurance and courage.”
He enjoys kayaking, canoeing, fishing, camping, throwing hatchets, and playing tomahawk. His Ted Talk from 2013, The Front Porch, is presently accessible on YouTube and has over 17k views. Johnny Jet, Sherman Thompson, Tim Rose, and Graham Ferguson are among his teammates.
