Jeremy Doku‘s father has downplayed the possibility of his son moving from Rennes to Barcelona, despite reports that the Camp Nou club is interested.
Doku, a prodigious young winger, has missed much of the season due to injury. Still, he returned to action on Saturday as Rennes moved into second place in Ligue 1 with a 2-0 win over Montpellier.
The 19-year-old also drew attention for his brisk performances on the left flank for Belgium at Euro 2020. As a result, Doku has been linked to several big clubs, including Barcelona, according to Mundo Deportivo. Ferran Torres of Manchester City and Karim Adeyemi of Red Bull Salzburg, another young target, was also linked with the Camp Nou side.
On the other hand, Papa Doku slammed the notion that his son might join Xavi’s team. “That doesn’t sit right with me.” “I don’t think Barcelona is in a position right now to spend large transfer fees,” he told HLN. “There are a lot of other clubs interested in Jeremy, but I can’t say anything about it.”
Meanwhile, Doku’s father believes that no deal for a player valued at €40-50 million by Rennes is unavoidable. “I don’t think he wants to leave just yet, but in football, anything can happen at any time.” “It all depends on which team is interested,” he adds.
Doku Is In Rennes
While Doku has shown much promise since joining Rennes in 2020, catching the eye with his low center of gravity and dribbling ability, there are still questions about his decisiveness.
He has only two goals and four assists in 42 games for the Ligue 1 club. After acquiring confidence in 2021, he seemed considerably more at ease in key areas.
Doku hasn’t shown enough for Barcelona to spend €40 million on him from Rennes.
