Anthony Walker

Anthony Walker, a Canadian comedian, flies to aid the Ukrainian army in the current Russia-Ukraine war. The 29-year-old from Toronto’s outskirts has gone to the Polish-Ukrainian border to serve as a military medic. Walker’s Twitter account now includes the term “Temporary Ukrainian.” On February 25, he announced on Twitter that he would go to Ukraine to assist them in their hour of need. His tweet came a day after the crisis started.

Since then, the comedian has visited Amsterdam, Budapest, Rzeszow, Poland, and lastly, Medyka, a Polish city close to the Ukrainian border. When he arrived at the area, he was startled to find how many volunteers had come to assist in the middle of the Russia-Ukraine crisis. Walker described his motivation for entering the battle in between tweets. He said that the conflict “affects everyone” and that he would fight for the freedom that Ukraine and his family deserve. The Canadian looks fatigued but delighted in a picture uploaded immediately after arriving in Medyka. He was on his way to give supplies to the Ukrainian Army.

The Russia-Ukraine crisis erupted last week, sparking Europe’s most extensive land combat since World War II. The US and other Western allies have helped the nation indirectly via sanctions against Moscow, but not directly through military aid. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, has appealed to ordinary citizens within and outside the nation to assist on the battlefield. He got sacked from his job and is now a full-time comedian.
