Cook taught in Oak Hill Elementary School in Florida before moving to Madison Junior High School in Tampa, Florida. She joined Tampa’s Hillsborough High School’s English Department in 1966, where she taught literature and creative writing. Cook, who financed the book, was honored by students in the 1978 Hilsborean school yearbook. Pupils characterized her as “a teacher who interacts with the students” and who “has remained late, worked evenings, and quietly supported her colleagues in their tremendous endeavor” without complaint. Cook featured in a one-on-one episode on, To Tell the Truth in 1990. Cook became a writer after retiring from teaching. She is a member of the Mystery Writers of America and the author of the Brandy O’Bannon mystery series set on Florida’s Gulf Coast.
