Angel Dugard is Jaycee Dugard’s eldest daughter, born after her mother was raped by her captor when she was only 13 years old. She and her mother and sister gained notoriety after Jaycee released her book A Stolen Life- A Memoir, which was based on her experiences as a captive of Phillip Garrido.
Angel Dugard was born as the result of a rape
Angel Dugard was born in August 1994 to Jaycee, a 13-year-old mother who was impregnated by her captor Phillip Garrido. Although Garrido is technically Angel’s father, his relationship with Jaycee was that of a captive and a kidnapper.
Angel’s mother was allegedly kidnapped by Garrido when she was only 11 years old. Following that, he raped and abused her for years while she was imprisoned. After her pregnancy with Angel, Jaycee was simply given analgesics and shown some delivery videos before being left to give birth on her own.
Angel grew up in a very traumatic environment as a result of his birth circumstances. She did not have the opportunity to attend formal school and was instead homeschooled by her mother.
Angel’s mother was abducted from a bus stop
An eleven-year-old girl was reported missing from a bus stop near Lake Tahoe in 1991. Although it was not initially revealed who kidnapped her, it was later revealed that she was abducted by a criminal named Phillip Garrido. Garrido’s case was not his first. He had a repulsive criminal history.
Prior to Dugard’s case, he had already served 15 years in prison for harassment. According to reports, he raped women for 8 hours in a rented storage container. He also married his childhood friend Christine Murphy, whom he kidnapped after she threatened to leave him because of his abusive behavior.
Phillip, an abductor, serial rapist, pedophile, and hebephile, was later deemed a “sexual deviant and chronic drug abuser” by a 1976 court ruling.
Angel’s mother was finally set free after 18 years
Dugards were finally rescued in 2009. It all started when Phillip began showing up on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley, with his daughters Angel and Starlet. Phillip’s behavior and activity were observed to be quite abnormal, prompting the college police to be suspicious when they began interacting with him.
When they began investigating, it was discovered that he was a convicted sex offender on parole. Furthermore, the police officers later discovered that Phillip, who claimed the children he visited at the college were his daughters, had never had a daughter as reported in his previous documents submitted during his previous conviction.
This prompted additional investigation, which resulted in Phillip’s surrender on August 26, 2009. He was eventually convicted of one count of kidnapping and thirteen counts of sexual assault, which resulted in 431 years in prison. His wife, on the other hand, who was also involved in the kidnapping, was sentenced to 36 years in prison.
When asked why Jaycee never attempted to escape from the prison, she cited physical abuse and mental manipulation. She stated that Phillip convinced her that if she left, he would kidnap other girls, which she did not want.
What Is Angel Dugard Up To These Days?
Angel has only been living a normal life for a little over a year. She had to go through a lot of counseling after being rescued from the kidnapper, in order to overcome the trauma she and her sister and mother had experienced. She is currently living a happy but low-key life.
