Similarly, after graduating, he worked as a music and theater teacher at Goldsboro High School for three years. Later, he became a monologist, and his 1953 monologue ‘What It Was, Was Football’ was a huge success.

In addition, he made his television debut when he was invited to appear as a guest on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1954. He appeared in Ira Levin’s teleplay ‘No Time for Sergeants’ in March 1955. It was based on Mac Hyman’s best-selling novel of the same name, which was released in 1954.

Similarly, in October 1955, he made his Broadway debut in the same-named theatrical adaptation, and Griffith received rave reviews for his performance.
