This year, the documentary has already been nominated for an Academy Award.

All That Breathes trailer: There is no distinction between things that breathe.
All That Breathes’ visual wonder, as seen by the teaser, can be described in one word: “breathtaking.” Shaunak Sen’s documentary on living creatures and their ties seems to have every shot selected to perfection. The documentary’s unusual theme of kites tries to touch on the much wider picture of mankind.

“Shaunak Sen’s film All That Breathes follows two brothers who manage a bird hospital devoted to saving wounded black kites, which are common in the sky of New Delhi, India. The “Kite Brothers” care for thousands of these fascinating animals that fall every day from New Delhi’s smog-choked sky in one of the world’s most densely inhabited cities, where cows, rats, monkeys, frogs, and pigs coexist with humanity.”
It goes on to say:
“As environmental toxicity and civic unrest worsen, this family’s connection with the neglected kites becomes a lyrical record of the city’s deteriorating ecological and widening social fault lines.”
All That Breathes, which is set in Delhi, will almost certainly address one of the most pressing topics on the minds of environmentalists in recent years: the city’s ecological collapse. Over many years, Delhi has been dominated by pollution, water shortages, and unexplained carelessness, and it has become one of the most-discussed subjects in recent years, with many arguing that it is too late for India’s capital to recover. The documentary by Shaunak Sen was produced in collaboration with HBO Documentary Films, Submarine Deluxe, and Sideshow Release.
On January 22, 2022, the critically praised picture had its world debut at the Sundance Film Festival. It was awarded the Grand Jury Prize at the World Cinema Documentary Competition there. It was also chosen for a special screening area at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, where it earned the Golden Eye award. Following this triumph, the picture was nominated for an Academy Award.
Nadeem Shehzad and Mohammad Saud, two brothers who manage a bird clinic in Wazirabad, Delhi, have healed over 20,000 raptors in the previous 20 years. Shaunak Sen explained his intention to shoot the brothers:
“I am attracted to the topic of the interconnection of an ecosystem – one in which people are a part, not separate from. How humans and animals share space and become one. It’s an important tale.”
