“Melbourne was fantastic. I adored our Australian staff; they are hard workers. Every department performed well. Do you see what I mean? They were their own people. They had a fantastic sense of humour. I met a few of friends, and I fell in love there, but she was already taken.”

Everything you need to know about Liam Neeson’s wife and her terrible death.

Liam Neeson was married to Natasha Richardson, an actress, for almost 15 years until her death in 2009. Following her film debut, Richardson quickly rose to prominence with roles in films such as A Month in the Country (1987), Patty Hearst (1988), The Favour, the Watch, and the Very Big Fish (1991), Zelda (1993), Nell (1994), The Parent Trap (1998), Maid in Manhattan (2002), Asylum (2005), and Wild Child (2006). (2008). Natasha Richardson and Liam Neeson met on Broadway in 1993 while performing in a production of Anna Christie, and they married in July 1994. After then, the couple expanded their family by having their first son Micheál in 1995 and their second son Daniel in 1996. However, tragedy befell the happy family when Richardson perished in a horrific accident in 2009.

Richardson visited the Mont Tremblant ski resort in Québec, Canada, with one of her boys in March 2009. Unaware of her destiny, Richardson decided to take ski lessons during her stay and set a goal of reaching the bottom of a beginners’ route at the resort. Richardson smacked her head on hard snow after falling on the path without a helmet. Her teacher quickly contacted the ski patrol, and an ambulance was sent. However, while originally claiming that she was alright, the actress signed a disclaimer denying medical assistance, which exacerbated her predicament.

Richardson was then escorted to her hotel room by her teacher and a ski patrol member. Natasha Richardson, still in denial, called Liam Neeson, who was filming at a separate location and laughed off the fall. She had a terrible headache shortly after the contract ended and was brought to a local hospital in Sainte-Agathe. Because the hospital was unable to treat her condition with its limited resources, she was sent to the Montréal trauma center, which was 55 miles distant. When Neeson arrived at the hospital, he was informed that his wife was brain dead. Richardson, who was already on life support, was then flown to New York to say her last farewell to her friends and family.

Richardson was taken off life support on March 18, 2009. In the age of 45, she died at Lenox Hill Hospital on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Later, in a 60 Minutes interview in 2014, Liam Neeson mourned her death and explained why he had to make the difficult decision to remove her life support, as he told Anderson Cooper,

“She was on a life support machine… I approached her and told her I loved her. “Sweetie, you’re not coming back from this, you’ve bashed your skull,” I said. She and I had agreed that if any of us went into a vegetative condition, the other would be the one to pull the plug. “OK, these tubes have to go,” was my first thinking. She’s no longer there.”‘

Natasha Richardson’s fall produced an epidural hematoma, which finally led to brain death, according to a post-mortem examination. Her organs were given, and according to Liam Neeson, her heart, liver, and kidneys saved the lives of three individuals. Natasha Richardson is loved and honored by her boys, friends, and family to this day.
