Alex decided to enter the University of Toronto’s Criminology program after his basketball career was cut short due to an injury in his senior year of high school. He joined with the goal of one day becoming an attorney. That adventure, however, was short-lived. It was during his time at university that he decided to pursue his childhood ambition of becoming an “action star.”
Alex jumped in headfirst, with no prior experience in the entertainment sector and no advice. Of course, this had led to some regrettable setbacks along the way, but he was adamant about finding the proper path, his own path.
While at the University of Toronto, Alex decided to continue his acting career. His debut onscreen role was as Kosoul Chanthakoummane in the TV series documentary Cold Blood. As a result, in 2010, he landed the role of Hiro in True Justice, an action series.
Alex has also been in “Robocop,” “Remedy,” “Debug,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and a slew of other TV episodes and films. He is well known for his part on “Dark Matter” as “Four,” (Ryo Tetsuda/Ryo Ishida), in which he displayed his incredible martial arts talents. Alex then went on to play Matty Tan in the American judicial drama Conviction. The film was released in 2016. Insomnia, his most recent film, in which he plays the character Ken, was released in 2016.
From 2015 to 2017, he was in charge of bringing the character “Four,” a tough and stoic warrior, to life on SyFy’s smash series “Dark Matter.” Alex Mallari Jr. has gone from being just another Scarborough kid to becoming the action star he’s always wanted to be.
