Adejoke Lasisi is a Nigerian fabric designer who has made headlines for creating garments out of plastic and textile waste. Planet 3R, the designer’s firm, was founded. In an interview with Reuters, Lasisi explained how it all began, saying:
“In the town where I live, I discovered that many people just discard their garbage, even to the point of burning it, and this has a terrible influence on our environment and health.”
She went on to say:
“So I thought about how I might take care of these wastes using the weaving abilities that I had previously learned from my mother, and then I began employing the garbage that was an issue in the neighborhood.”

Adejoke Lasisi is an environmentalist as well as an African fabric designer. The Planet 3R founder founded the Jokelinks Weaving School. Obafemi Awolowo University awarded Adejoke a bachelor’s degree in economics. She also studied entrepreneurship at EDC Lagos in Nigeria. Using her weaving abilities, the Nigerian designer is helping to save the earth. She upcycles textile and plastic trash into unique things. Adejoke also takes part in entrepreneurial initiatives on a national and worldwide scale.
She was awarded the AYEEN Business Grant in 2014. During the Young African Leaders Initiative YALI 2015, she also earned the YALI SPIRIT AWARD. Lasisi was nominated for the best indigenous textile designer at the ACE Awards in 2017 and 2018. In 2017, she received the Akin Alabi business grant. SMEDAN awarded the designer a grant for light manufacturing in 2018. Her broad list of accomplishments includes the GEM grant.
In 2019, she received a grant from Nigeria’s Vice President via the NYEES platform. Adejoke Lasisi was accredited as a technical university trainer at the First Technical University in 2019. AlJazeera, BBC, Channels TV, Tribune newspaper, Punch newspaper, and other notable blogs have covered the designer and her environmentally conscious work. Adejoke’s Planet 3R is a non-profit organization dedicated to environmental protection and sustainability. It recycles plastic and non-biodegradable garbage into valuable goods and makes trendy things from discarded fabrics.
