Tim Roth and Quentin Tarantino have been pals for a long time. It was a relationship that began in his place years ago when Tarantino merely had a screenplay for Reservoir Dogs. The couple sat down, read the whole screenplay, and subsequently co-produced the film, in which Roth starred. Roth’s collaborations with the iconic filmmaker have become some of his most well-known works.
But meeting Tarantino impacted more than just his professional life. His personal life improved dramatically after meeting and working with the filmmaker, however, chance played just as large a part as the Once Upon A Time In Hollywood director.
Tim Roth Met His Wife at the Premiere of ‘Reservoir Dogs’
Roth and Tarantino were in a good mood when they attended the premiere of Reservoir Dogs at the Sundance Film Festival in 1992. Roth’s future wife would also be there, unbeknownst to either of them. Fashion designer Nikki Butler was in Salt Lake City but did not attend the event. She was there instead on a skiing vacation with several of her buddies. They met, but there was no instant connection. She didn’t know him and hadn’t seen any of his movies; he was enamored from the start but felt she was un-gettable. In an earlier interview with The Observer, he said that she was “out of [his] league – too tall and lovely.” Roth nearly failed to make his shot.
Things changed forever when a mutual acquaintance put them up on a date. “Within 20 minutes, we were snogging at the bar,” he remembered of their encounter. They married a year later in Belize when he was in the midst of filming for a movie. “We decided to sneak away and do it on a movie set,” Roth said of his wedding. He first had her initials tattooed on his arm, then chugged a drink with a buddy (maybe to get confidence for what was going to happen), and then returned to Butler and proposed to her. He may have given her a nice fright in the process – she feared he was about to end their relationship.

Roth was already a parent to one child before his connection with Butler. He had his first child, son Jack Roth, with his then-girlfriend Lori Baker in 1984, when Roth was 23 years old. He has two additional children after marrying his wife: Timothy Hunter (named after Hunter S. Thompson) was born in 1995, and Michael Cormac was born on January 5, 1996. Years before having children and marrying Butler, he relocated to Los Angeles. He established a family in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, after marrying.
All of his children work in the entertainment industry, albeit Timothy seems to be the quieter one. Jack is an actor who has appeared in over 34 films, television series, and music videos. Michael Cormac Roth is a musician who, in addition to working in the music department of New Order in 2020, is an independent music composer and producer with songs available on several streaming platforms such as Spotify, SoundCloud, and Apple Music.
