Exene Cervenka met musician John Doe at a poetry class in Venice, California. She worked there and took guitar lessons from Dave Alvin. In 1977, she joined the rock band ‘X’

Doe (bass), Billy Zoom (guitar), and D.J. Bonebrake are in her band (as a drummer). Cervenka contributed to ‘Adult Books’/’We,’re Desperate 7’ (published in 1978 on Dangerhouse Records), ‘Yes L.A.’ (1979), and ‘No Questions Asked by Flesh Eaters’ (released in 1980 on Slash Records).

She joined the Hollywood punk wave with her beautiful poems. Their band released CDs afterward. She collaborated with Lydia Lunch on “Adulterers Anonymous.” 1985’s ‘Poor Little Critter on the Road’ was the Knitters’ debut album. Cervenka and John Doe composed the record.

Exene Cervenka and musician Wanda Coleman co-wrote “Twin Sisters.” Their band performed ‘Burning House of Love on ‘American Bandstand’ in September. This is their most-watched TV performance.
