Gwen Berry was born on June 29, 1989, in the United States. His father, Michael Berry, and mother, Laura Hayes, gave birth to her. She is one of four siblings, with two brothers, Davon and Michael, and one sister, Quincy. She went to McCluer High School. In 2007, she enrolled at Southern Illinois University Carbondale to pursue psychology and criminal justice degree. She competed in throwing events for the collegiate team of Southern Illinois University Salukis, finishing fourth in the hammer at the 2008 USA Junior Championships.
