Late in seventh grade, Quaid switched to Defensive End (DE) and Outside Linebacker.

Tom’s father, John Alan Luginbill, is a football coach. He was born on November 13, 1946. Luginbill started his collegiate coaching career as an assistant at Pasadena City Collegiate. He worked there for two periods of time, first from 1968 to 1971 and subsequently from 1974 to 1976.
Later, Luginbill was hired as head coach in 1977, and he guided PCC to the Jr. Rose Bowl and National Championship. He started his college career with the Arizona State Sun Devils. He was an assistant coach at Arizona State University for two years. Additionally, he returned to Arizona State following a year at the University of Wyoming. Luginbill served as head coach and general manager of the Detroit Fury of the Arena Football League in 2003. He is also married to Susan and the father of twins Tom and Kerry.
