He became just the second kicker to make at least 20 in a season without missing. Twelve of the field goals were from 40 yards or more, two from 50 yards or more, and 31 of his 55 kickoffs resulted in touchbacks. After the season, Santos was voted a consensus All-American[9] and awarded the Lou Groza Award as the nation’s best placekicker.
