Santos had a breakthrough season in 2012, going 26 of 27 on PATs (his only mistake was blocked) and a perfect 21 of 21 on field goals, including a school-record 57-yarder. He became just the second kicker to make at least 20 in a season without missing. Twelve of the field goals were from 40 yards or more, two from 50 yards or more, and 31 of his 55 kickoffs resulted in touchbacks. After the season, Santos was voted a consensus All-American[9] and awarded the Lou Groza Award as the nation’s best placekicker.
