In November 2022, Brandon noticed a bulge on his left forearm, which grew to the size of an egg. Later, Devon Reed, his mother, stated that a visit to a local walk-in clinic resulted in a biopsy to a Miami hospital, which revealed the cancer diagnosis. Brandon started therapy shortly after Thanksgiving, remaining optimistic about his outlook. Similarly, he expressed his desire to recuperate within two and a half years after undergoing therapy and returning to the board.
Brandon Loved Fishing
Aside from skateboarding, Brandon had a strong affinity for fishing. Brandon and a few pals spent their free time exploring nearby waterways, fishing for snook and tarpon from his 15-foot boat. Plans to skateboard and fish were put on hold for a few months after his cancer diagnosis. However, he eventually returned to his customary activities. Similarly, someone subsequently referred Brandon to Make-A-Wish, a nationwide group that grants wishes for children suffering from a variety of terrible diseases.
The group grants around 300 wishes every week, and 87% of recipients say it was a turning point in their recovery journey. The Make-A-Wish Foundation contacted the Reed family to help them realize Brandon’s desire. Initially, his mother respectfully refused the offer, asking the charity to assist another kid since Brandon already had everything he needed. In May, Brandon was contacted again by the Wish team, who asked if he wanted to go halibut fishing in Alaska.
As an alternative, they asked him if he would go tuna fishing off San Diego. However, a salesman at Fort Pierce Bait said that his top three selections were clear: “White’s Tackle, White’s Tackle, White’s Tackle.” Brandon went on a $4,000 Make-A-Wish spree on June 16, 2023, with his sister, mother, and a dozen friends. Brandon, who was transported by Cisco Limo of West Palm Beach, spent hours picking fishing reels, a cast net, lures, and bait buckets to express his profound passion for fishing.
