Seth Greenberg is an ESPN college basketball commentator. He is an outspoken supporter of cancer research. However, there are whispers that he, too, is afflicted with cancer. Is this true? No, Greenberg, the former Virginia Tech basketball coach, does not have cancer. However, since his father died of lung cancer, he noted that his battle with the disease is “very personal.” Seth Vincent Greenberg, a Plainview, New York native, is a former college basketball coach turned ESPN commentator.

He was a former college basketball player at Fairleigh Dickinson who went on to become a coach immediately after graduation in 1978. Seth Greenberg, the former Long Beach State head coach, is good and healthy as of this writing. There is yet to be a report about his health difficulties or sickness. He was in excellent health when he attended the wedding of his youngest daughter, Page, in late September 2023. Furthermore, he turned to Instagram to showcase photos from wedding events.
Contrary to popular belief, Greenberg’s late father, Ralph Greenberg, died of lung cancer in 1996. As a consequence, he is involved in a “personal battle” with cancer and pushes for cancer research. In December 2017, he tweeted about a fundraiser for The V Foundation, writing,
“I lost my father to cancer.” Like so many others who have lost loved ones, I miss him. We must discover a cure.”
Furthermore, the disease has affected him emotionally in various ways. During his time at Virginia Tech, Hokies player Allen Calloway died of cancer in 2009, while another player, Coleman Collins, lost his father to lung disease in 2006. In September 2010, Seth informed The Roanoke Times of the Coaches vs. Cancer project, “It’s a cause that’s very dear to my heart.” It means a lot to us.”

Seth Greenberg is one of three children born to Marilyn and Ralph Greenberg. Brad, his elder brother, is also a basketball coach for the Puerto Rican team Cangrjeros de Santurce (2023-present). Seth and his wife, Karen Greenberg, have been married for 37 years. They married in May 1986 and celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary in May 2019. They married at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Spring, West Virginia, on May 15, 2021. Jessica Greenberg Lyon, the youngest daughter, lives with her boyfriend-turned-husband, John Lyon. The couple tied the knot in September 2023. Jessica, alias Jackie, graduated from the Syracuse University College of Law in 2010.
