Roman Kostomarov is a former Russian competitive ice dancer. Kostomarov is most recognized for his gold medal-winning pair with Tatiana Navka at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.
Navka and Kostomarov began working together in 1997. The pair won multiple international tournaments, including the 2004 and 2005 European Figure Skating Championships. They withdrew from competitive staking in 2006, and Kostomarov went on to work as a teacher and choreographer. He has worked with many elite ice dance teams and has received recognition for his efforts. Kostomarov has been hospitalized with a separate ailment since the beginning of 2024; he is alive and has been undergoing medical treatment. Many death hoaxes circulated when he was hospitalized, but his family verified that he was alive. On January 10, 2023, the Olympic champion was admitted to the hospital. He had a cold that was first thought to be Covid-19 but was subsequently diagnosed as pneumonia. He was in poor health, and pneumonia forced him to use ventilators for many days before physicians urged him to stay in Moscow.
Despite medical treatment, Roman Kostomarov’s condition did not improve. Kostomarov’s health reportedly deteriorated after he was sent to the hospital with a severe cold.

Kostomarov’s condition worsened after being relocated to a specialty hospital in Moscow. As a result, on February 6, 2023, Kostomarov had surgery to remove necrotic tissue and avoid future cell death. During the treatment, the dead tissue from one of his legs was removed. However, the afflicted region was larger on the second leg, and the ankle was completely amputated. Due to the severity of his illness, his second foot was removed after some time.
Kostomarov was put in an induced coma after a stroke and a second brain bleed that impaired his eyesight, as previously reported. The cold was diagnosed as pneumonia, affecting his health. He awoke from his coma after some time, but physicians reported minimal improvement. Hopefully, the Olympic winner will feel better soon and will be able to share his experience with the world.

Kostomarov is being cared for by his family since he is in severe condition. Oksana Domnina is his wife. Oksana is a former competitive ice dancer from Russia, and the pair married in 2014.
