Career
Pfaff has known Slipknot bandmate Sid Wilson his whole life, and Wilson introduced him to Shawn Crahan in 2007. They rapidly became friends and created a band called Dirty Little Rabbits, in which he played the piano. Before releasing their first and only eponymous album in 2010, the band issued two extended plays, Breeding (2007) and Simon (2009), before breaking up in 2012.
After veteran Slipknot percussionist Chris Fehn was fired in March 2019 after launching a lawsuit against the band, Pfaff was promptly approached by Crahan while working on his day job about possibly replacing Fehn, which he accepted. He took up drumming duties soon before the band began shooting the music video for “Unsainted,” the first single from their sixth studio album We Are Not Your Kind, which was released on August 9, 2019.
Pfaff was rapidly called “Tortilla Man” by fans because of the look of his mask resembling a tortilla, and he was known largely by this term until the band ultimately disclosed his identity in March 2022. He was first brought in as a touring member, but when the band went into the studio to record their seventh studio album, The End, So Far, he became an official full-time member. Pfaff was injured while playing on the band’s 2022 European Tour.
