Career
Nix attended Etowah High School in Attalla, Alabama, where he played high school football. He subsequently went on to play quarterback for the Auburn Tigers at Auburn University. During his sophomore season in 1993, he filled in for an injured Stan White against Alabama and helped lead the Tigers to a perfect 11–0 record. Nix graduated in 1995 as the school’s career passing efficiency leader. Nix played for Auburn head coach Terry Bowden, offensive coordinator Tommy Bowden, future Clemson head coach, and quarterbacks coach Jimbo Fisher, current Texas A&M head coach. With 34 completions versus Arkansas, Nix owns the Auburn passing record for most pass completions in a game.
Nix joined the Georgia Tech coaching staff in 2002. During his first year at Tech, Nix was the running backs coach and recruiting coordinator. He was the quarterbacks coach and running game coordinator in 2003. He was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2004 while also serving as quarterbacks coach. Nix’s attack included the ACC’s top rusher (Tashard Choice) and its leading receiver (Calvin Johnson). Nix took over as a full-time play-caller before the 2006 season.
