In the first two seasons, he served as the team’s video coordinator, and then as an assistant coach under head coach Gregg Popovich for the next sixteen years. Mike is also well-known as the former head coach of the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) Atlanta Hawks.

Mike began playing professionally for Vejle Basketball Klub in Denmark shortly after graduating. He was also the head coach for two of the club’s youth squads. Mike was employed as a video coordinator for the NBA franchise San Antonio Spurs for the 1994-95 season. He worked as a video coordinator for two years before becoming an assistant coach for the same squad under head coach Gregg Popovich. During his time with the Spurs, the squad won four NBA titles. Mike left the Spurs in 2013 to become the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks, where he was elevated to president in 2015 and left the franchise in 2018.
