Dusty Locane Had No Intention Of Becoming A Rapper.

Dusty Locane has established himself as yet another New York-bred rapper who rose to prominence at a young age. But, unlike other Brooklyn names like Biggie or Mos Def, Locane never set out to make a name for himself in hip-hop.

Locane, also known as ‘The Floss,’ rose to prominence after releasing his ‘Rollin n Controllin’ Freestyle’ in August 2020. However, prior to that, he was not even interested in rap.

Locane Aspired to play professional basketball.

Initially, the aspiring rapper intended to pursue his dream of becoming a professional basketball player. He used to go to the gym after school to practice when he was younger.

However, things did not go as planned for the rapper, and he was forced to abandon his NBA dreams. Instead, his life relegated him to the streets.

During an interview with Elevator Magazine, the rapper recalled how rap helped him get his life back on track. He continued, To be honest, I’m not going to lie: if it weren’t for rap, I’d be locked up or, worse, six feet, but that’s life, and it’s a good thing I’m doing what I’m doing now.

He also revealed to the outlet how he discovered he could spit out bars by accident. He was out with his right-hand man, YJ, on a fall afternoon when his story began.

Is Dusty Locane Pop Smoke’s Cousin?

In one of the videos, the rapper addressed another burning question from fans: “Is Dusty Locane Pop Smoke’s cousin?”

The answer would be a resounding yes! Locane went on to say that he and the late rapper, real name Bashar Barakah Jackson, grew up together. They attended the same schools and socialized after school.

However, as time passed, the two became estranged. He also made it clear that he didn’t appreciate fans bringing up the late rapper’s name alongside his on social media.

His Very First Freestyle Was a Challenge

YJ had just handed Locane a beat. Locane had never written rap before, but he was more than willing to take on the challenge.

“Of course, I didn’t think it was going to do what it did when I heard the beat and was like hold on, run that [expletive] back,” Locane recalled of that day. That wasn’t the intention, but it’s how things turned out.” Despite the fact that he landed in the game by accident, the rapper does not appear to be leaving anytime soon.

In an interview with Genius, the rapper discussed the meaning behind his song ‘Rolando (Caught In The Rain),’ as well as the mindset that led him to pursue rap as a career path.

The rapper revealed that he was once imprisoned for an unspecified crime. Even after he had left, he stated that he would not mind returning. However, when presented with the opportunity to make money off of rap, he figured, why not? He recognized that it was a safer path to a much better lifestyle for himself and his family.
