Career
In January 1975, Colvin joined ABC’s rock music station, Double Jay. Later, he became ‘Nationwide’s’ first reporter. In 1980, he was also assigned as a foreign reporter in London. He was also the first broadcaster of ‘The World Today’ on ABC radio. He also worked as a correspondent for ‘Four Corners’ from 1988 until 1992.
Colvin covered key events throughout the globe such as the Iranian hostage crisis, African famines, the growth of the Solidarity movement in Poland, and the dissolution of the Soviet Union, among others. On March 22, 2013, he underwent a kidney transplant from a live donor. He died on May 11, 2017, at the age of 65, in the Prince of Wales Hospital. Granulomatosis with polyangiitis was the cause of death. Colvin survived the kidney transplant, although he subsequently developed melanoma. He was also diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer.
