When it comes to Johan Petro’s professional basketball career, he began after joining ElanBearnais Pau- Orthez. He signed with the Seattle SuperSonics of the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 2005, then with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Petro was moved to the Denver Nuggets in 2009, but the Nuggets denied the deal, leaving him a free agent. He quickly resigned on August 27, 2009. Petro signed a three-year deal with the New Jersey Nets on July 10, 2010, and was transferred to the Atlanta Hawks on July 11, 2013.
He signed a one-year contract with Zhejiang Guangsha but departed in January 2014. In February 2013, he signed with the French club Limoges CSP, however, he quickly left the squad and relocated to Florida to recover from his ailments.
