Career
Gibson started his ice hockey career at Notre Dame College. He began his career with the Notre Dame Hounds (Midget AAA), where he won the Telus Cup national title in 2009. Gibson was selected in the first round of the 2009 CHL Import Draft by the Chicoutimi Saguenéens of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Prior to the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, he was regarded as the top goalie in the QMJHL.
Gibson was the first goalkeeper chosen in the 2011 NHL Draft from the Canadian Hockey League. Gibson was transferred by the Maple Leafs to the New York Islanders on September 17, 2015, along with four other prospects, in exchange for Michael Grabner. He made his NHL debut for the Islanders against the Washington Capitals. Gibson was re-signed by the Islanders on August 15, 2016, to a one-year, two-way deal for $660,000. Gibson earned the bronze medal at the 2010 IIHF World U18 Championships in Belarus at the age of 17.
