Career
At the age of 11, he became interested in music after purchasing a mandolin. Sam Bush attended the first Roanoke, Virginia Bluegrass Festival in 1965. Following this, he collaborated with guitarist Wayne Stewart, his mentor and music instructor, and banjoist Alan Munde on an instrumental album called Poor Richard’s Almanac, which was released in 1969. The band dissolved in the autumn of 1971 and regrouped as the New Grass Revival. This reunion went through many personnel changes, with Bruce being the lone original member.
Bush eventually created his own band, which included Cowan and ex-Nash Ramblers Jon Randall and Larry Atamanuick, just before his second solo album, Glamour & Grits, was released in 1996.
