Lindsey joined the Judge Advocate General’s Corps as an officer after graduation in 1982 and went on active duty the following year. He started his career as an Air Force defense attorney before being assigned to Rhein-Main Air Base in Frankfurt, Germany, as the Air Force’s senior prosecutor in Europe from 1984 to 1988. Lindsey was defending an Air Force pilot charged with marijuana use in 1984. serving service in Europe, he returned to South Carolina and left active duty in 1989.
He then went into private practice as a lawyer. Lindsey worked as an assistant county attorney in Oconee County from 1988 to 1992 and as the city attorney in Central from 1990 to 1994. He left the Air Force in 1989 and joined the South Carolina Air National Guard, where he served until 1995. Lindsey later joined the United States Air Force Reserve.
