The Challenge: Ride or Die is expected to emphasize close-knit relationships and bring individuals together, even exes. A couple of ex-lovers teaming together to win $1 million is one of the teams slated to battle in the rigorous tournament. The couple is all-star Nelson Thomas, who will battle against his ex-girlfriend, social media personality Nurys Mateo.
According to MTV’s press release for the show:
“For the first time ever, the highly acclaimed competition franchise will match cast members with their “Ride or Die,” including a cast of best friends, exes, and partners as they traverse the weekly mental and physical battle for their share of one million dollars.”

Meet Nelson and Nurys as they prepare to show the world what they’re capable of.
The age-old subject of amicable ex-partners is going to be solved in the forthcoming season of The Challenge. Nelson and Nurys, reality TV stars, are prepared to show the world that you can still be friends after a breakup by competing together for a chance to win $1 million.
Nurys is one of the rookie competitors who has never competed on the program before, along with other reality TV personalities like Tommy Bracco and Analyse Talavera who have previously featured on Big Brother. While Nurys has no previous experience on The Challenge, she has been on enough reality programs to know how to get to the top. The 27-year-old model and athlete have been on MTV series such as Are You The One and Ex on the Beach, where she appeared with Nelson himself.
According to her MTV bio:
“Nurys and her Ride or Die Nelson dated briefly in the past, but their friendship has only grown stronger, and Nurys is ready to break Nelson’s daily Challenge curse, as well as ride with him to his first final triumph, and, of course, hers.”
Her ex-boyfriend and teammate Nelson Thomas make up for her lack of expertise in the program. Nelson has yet to win a season, although he has been close many times. Nelson has complete trust in his partner and said in their first video that her looks should not deceive anybody since she is “fiesty.”
They have a great connection and have nothing but positive things to say about one another. Nurys described Nelson as “a giant bundle of energy” if she were to characterize him in one word. Nelson went on to say that she is “undeniable” and isn’t hesitant to speak her thoughts. Because they’ve been through so much together, the two think they’re each other’s ride-or-die.
Nurys went on to say:
“We went from dating or anything to not talking to being friends to wondering whether we could ever be a thing again — to now being wonderful friends, fantastic partners in this game.”
They discussed each other’s strengths and flaws, and she said that Nelson’s greatest strength is his social game, which everyone adores. She went on to say that his greatest weakness would be swimming. Nelson said that Nurys’ greatest strength is her ability to regulate her emotions, and her greatest weakness is her unwillingness to commit.
