His father was previously the Minister of Mines and Energy in the administrations of Joo Goulart and Fernando Collor, as well as the former president of Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (now Vale).
When he was a teenager, his family relocated to Europe, though he has also lived in Geneva, Düsseldorf, and Brussels.
