Jerry Jones was born on October 13, 1942, in Los Angeles, California, and began playing football in high school at North Little Rock High School.
He attended the University of Arkansas after graduating from high school and was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.
During the 1964 National Football Championship, he was one of the captains of his outstanding college football career. Coach Frank Broyles also assigned him to the offensive line. He has worked alongside Jimmy Johnson, Ken Hatfield, Glen Ray Hines, Jim Lindsey, and Loyd Phillips.
Jones reportedly borrowed one million dollars from Jimmy Hoffa’s Teamsters union after graduating from college in 1965 to start a chain of pizza restaurants in Missouri. This venture, however, failed, and he was hired by his father’s company.
He earned his business degree in 1970. He tried several unsuccessful businesses before launching Jones Oil and Land Lease in Arkansas, which became enormously successful. In 1963, Jones married Eugenia. Stephen, Charlotte, and Jerry, Jr. are their three children.
