James Worthy was born in Gastonia, North Carolina, on February 27, 1961. When he played for the school, his team performed well in the state championship game, and the team was able to reach the championship due to his 21.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game. James went to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill after graduating high school. However, he broke his ankle in his first year. During his sophomore year, he was a vital member of that school’s 1981 NCAA runner-up team, alongside Al Wood and Sam Perkins.
He was a junior forward and a leading scorer for the Tar Heels’ NCAA championship team, including legendary NBA players like Sam Perkins and freshman Michael Jordan.
