David Allen Wright was born on December 20, 1982, in Norfolk, Virginia, to parents Rhon and Elisa Wright. Rhon, his father, was a police officer with the Norfolk Police Department. David spent his childhood in Virginia with his three other brothers. While in elementary school, he learned and practiced alongside future Major League player Michael Cuddyer, and in high school, he played on teams with future stars such as Ryan Zimmerman, Mark Reynolds, B.J. Upton, and Justin Upton. Later, when he enrolled at Georgia Tech, he continued to pursue his passion by playing baseball for the college team. David had a batting average of 0.538 in high school.
