John Rockefeller was born on July 8, 1839, in Richford, New York, but his family was forced to relocate to Cleveland, Ohio when he was only 14 years old. He had a great business mind in his teens, as he started a number of small businesses before joining Hewitt & Tuttle as an assistant bookkeeper at the age of 16.
When he was only 20, John went a long way in his work. He began working as a commission merchant in meats, hay, grains, and other products. In its first year, the company he founded made a profit of $450,000.
