Martindale was born on July 18, 1951, in Jacksonville, Texas, to William Everett Martindale and Margaret (Pruitt) Martindale. She was the family’s only daughter and the youngest of three children. Her father was a champion dog handler in Texas and throughout the Southern United States, as well as the owner and operator of a lumber company in Jacksonville.
