Kyle Long Biography
Kyle Long was born on December 5, 1988, in Ivy, Virginia. He was a baseball and football player at St. Anne’s-Belfield School in Charlottesville, Virginia. In fact, he was chosen for the 2008 US Army All-American Bowl. He was picked in the 23rd round of the MLB draft by the Chicago White Sox in 2008. He did not, however, sign and honor his contract with Florida State University.

After leaving Florida State University for academic concerns, Long enrolled in Saddleback College in 2010. He started his college career as a defensive tackle, recording 16 tackles and one quarterback sack in his first year.
In 2011, he switched to the offensive line, and in December of that year, he committed to play football with the Oregon Ducks. He played offensive tackle at the University of Oregon after transferring.
Long was the 20th overall choice in the 2013 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. On May 17th of that year, he became the final member of the 2013 Chicago Cubs draft class to sign. He participated in a rookie minicamp from May 10th to 12th, but he was unable to participate in most of the offseason program.
He started the Bears’ opening game of the 2013 season at right guard against the Cincinnati Bengals, becoming the first rookie to do so in franchise history.
Long switched positions from guard to tackle at the start of the 2015 season and started every regular season game. Long returned to guard after the Bears signed Bobby Massie, a right tackle, on March 10th, 2016. Long signed a four-year, $40 million contract deal with the Bears in September of 2016.
Long was plagued by injuries during the 2016 season, missing the first seven games due to a ruptured labrum in his left shoulder. He missed a game with the Minnesota Vikings because of a strained triceps, and then he hurt his ankle against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Long declared his retirement from the sport on January 6th, 2020, and became an unrestricted free agent on March 18th, 2020. Long decided to come out of retirement one year later on March 18th, 2021 and signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. Unfortunately, he damaged his knee in June of that year, which forced him to miss a significant amount of time.
