Later, he transferred to Abilene Christian University, where he played football for the Abilene Christian Wildcats. Johnny began the season as a backup but quickly advanced to the starting position.

He had 62 receptions for 1,158 yards and a school-record 17 touchdowns in his first season with the Abilene Christian Wildcats. In 2008, he had 56 receptions for 1,069 yards and 13 touchdowns. Johnny was also named second-team All-America that year after recording 30 touchdown receptions in two seasons, the most in Abilene Christian Football history. Career

Johnny Knox was selected by the Chicago Bears in the fifth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. On September 13, 2009, in his first NFL game, he had two receptions against the Green Bay Packers. Johnny scored his first NFL touchdown in his second game against Pittsburgh, tying the game at 14-14. Similarly, in the third game, against the Seattle Seahawks, he added another touchdown to his tally with 7-yard receptions.

In the fourth game of the season, he scored on a 102-yard kickoff return against the Detroit Lions. Knox suffered an ankle injury while practicing for the game against the Vikings on November 29, 2009. After a brief recovery period, he returned to finish the 2009 season with 45 receptions, 527 yards, and five touchdowns. He was ranked second in the NFL in return yard average at 29.0.

Johnny was named to the 2010 Pro Bowl on January 25, 2010. In his Pro Bowl debut, he kicked four times for 103 yards. In 2010, the wide receiver had 960 yards, 51 receptions, and five touchdowns. Similarly, his career accomplishments in 2011 included 727 yards and a second-place finish in the NFL.
