Kathryn Hays died recently at the age of 88. On March 25, the actress died in Fairfield, Connecticut. The reason of death has not been disclosed. Don Hastings, Kathryn’s husband, paid homage to his wife in a statement, saying:
“Bob and Kim’s connection was as close as Kathryn and my relationship, only we weren’t married.” We were more like brothers and sisters, and we had a lot of fun together. Our main argument was that she constantly wanted to practice and I always wanted to snooze. This is a big loss for everyone who knew her.”

Kathryn Hays, who was born on July 26, 1933, rose to prominence as Kim Hughes on the CBS serial opera As the World Turns from 1972 until 2010. On a 2020 edition of the YouTube discussion program The Locher Room, she stated the show:
“As I often say… that was the longest job I’ve ever had.” Actors never have such long days. I mean, they’d play on Broadway a certain number of times or whatever. But it was the longest work I’d ever had, and I had the finest partner I’d ever had.”
From 1966 to 1967, Hays starred as Elizabeth Reynolds Pride in the NBC western series The Road West, opposite Barry Sullivan, Andrew Prine, Kelly Corcoran, and Glenn Corbett. She first appears on Star Trek in the 1967 episode The Empath. She portrayed Gem, a silent extraterrestrial capable of absorbing and repairing the anguish and injuries of others. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Hays appeared in a number of comedy and drama shows as a guest star. She was involved in films such as Ride Beyond Vengeance and Counterpoint. Yuma, a 1971 television film, featured her as hotel owner Julie Williams.
In 1972, Hays was cast as Kim Sullivan Hughes on CBS’s As the World Turns. Her role was a key element of the program for over 30 years. In April 2006, she appeared on the show’s 50th-anniversary episode. Prior to As the World Turns, Hays portrayed Leslie Bauer on the CBS soap drama Guiding Light. Hays was well-known for her roles in television shows such as Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Marcus Welby, M.D. Bonanza, and Branded.

Hays leaves behind her daughter Sherri, son-in-law Bob Mancusi, grandkids Kate, Cameron, and Garrett Wells, and great-grandson Jack.
