In an interview with a Kannada weekly magazine, Neel said that he began filmmaking for financial reasons, after which he finished a degree in the subject, finally acquiring a passion for it. After finishing the training, he opted to cast his brother-in-law, actor Srimurali, in Aa Hudugi Neene, a script he wrote at the time. After the latter stated his reservations about his lack of expertise, Neel changed his mind and started watching Srimurali’s habits over time, eventually resulting in the project Ugramm, an action film. The film was a huge financial success, being one of the highest-grossing Kannada films of 2014.
In late 2014 and early 2015, reports surfaced that Neel had been contracted to make three films. The first is a sequel to Ugramm called Ugramm Veeram, in which Srimurali will reprise his character from Ugramm. In his second film, KGF, which stands for Kolar Gold Fields, Yash played Rocky, an orphan who becomes a don. The sequel, KGF Chapter 2, was supposed to be released in theaters on July 16, 2021, however, it was pushed back owing to the second wave of the COVID epidemic in India. Salaar is a film starring Prabhas, which was released on December 2, 2020, by Hombale Films. The production of the film started on January 29, 2021. Mythri Movie Makers and N.T.R. Arts have announced a film in partnership with Neel and N. T. Rama Rao Jr. for his 31st feature in August 2021.
