Trace McSorley started as a freshman at Briar Woods High School when he played high school football. During his rookie year, he guided the squad to a 13-2 record and a state title. He guided the team to a 15-0 record and a third straight state championship during his junior year. First-team All-State honors came from the Virginia Coaches Association and Virginia Preps.
He was named First-Team All-Dulles District Offensive Player of the Year and Second-Team All-Region quarterback. Following that, he appeared in a total of six games, five of which were when the game was already underway and he only had a few minutes to play.
